Anyways as it was just to test the water the Antron was mounted about 6 ft off the ground. This worked fairly well and contacts over 20 miles were achievable.

Get that antenna up as high as possible, and use good coax, connectors, surge protection, grounding of the pole and related equipment such as your surge arrester, radio, and any related equipment.
