Again, the studies that resulted in its approval involved an injectable form of olanzapine rather than the tablets. But the medication itself has been studied. Dose range either 5 or 10 mg per dose. No clinical trials have reported on the safety of IV olanzapine for the management of acute agitation specifically in the ED. Conclusion: There is little evidence of efficacy or safety to support the use of IV olanzapine in the ED.
